Tomorrow is the beginning of the school year!
First and foremost, I would like to welcome everyone back and look forward to a great year!
As a reminder, tomorrow is our first day of school. It is a half day for everyone and ends at 11:30am. Again, school will be dismissed tomorrow at 11:30am.
For Drummond Island parents: The parking lot has been expanded. Please park only on the gravel and leave plenty of room for the bus to make the turn out of school.
For DeTour parents and students: Be advised the road heading into the school is now a one way with all traffic entering off St. Mary’s St and exiting on South Caribou Lake road. In addition, please be patient as we finalize the bond project work from this summer. Everyone is working very hard to get everything completed. Your patience is greately appreciated

The Solar Eclipse is coming next Monday, 4/8/24. Peak viewing for the solar eclipse will be at 3:15pm. We urge parents to educate your children about safe viewing practices, including the use of certified solar viewing glasses or pinhole projectors. Thank you to our local library for providing solar eclipse glasses to all of our students. Extra eclipse glasses may be picked up at the local library. Supervision of younger children during the eclipse is advised. Remember, not looking directly at the solar eclipse is best practice just like we don’t look directly at the sun.
DeTour Area Schools and DATA will not be holding classes tomorrow, Friday 22 March 2024, due to potential accumulating snow throughout the day, into the afternoon. No CTE.
March 20th, 2024.
Due to the wind, the ferry boat is only leaving at the top of the hour. Therefore, all students at DeTour and Drummond Island will be released early from school today at 2:45pm in order to make the ferry at 3:00pm. Once again, all staff and students at Detour and Drummond Island schools will be released today at 2:45pm. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Drummond Island Elementary students learned all about the science of bubbles today from Bri the bubble lady. It really can be fun to learn.
It's a birthday party for Dr. Seuss at Drummond Island Elementary! Thank you to all the parents who came and read with their child. Everyone enjoyed the ice-cream Sundays and parent-teacher conferences after.
It appears that 2 calendars have been put out for general consumption and there may be some confusion. Please know that our official return to school day after Springbreak is Monday 1 April. Please forgive us for any confusion.
March Is Reading Month!
Due to today's school cancellation, Drummond Island Elementary Student-Led Conferences will be held on Tuesday, March 5th. We would like to invite families to come in at 2:00 and celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday by reading with their student(s) and then having an ice cream sundae party. Immediately following, families can participate in our Student-Led Conferences. If this time does not work for your family, you can contact your child's teacher to make an alternate plan. This would be in place of the originally scheduled plan. Please feel free to share.
Due to freezing rain, high wind, dropping temperatures and weather not getting better until later this afternoon, DeTour Area Schools, and DATA will be closed today. We will make the determination as to whether or not we will have extra curriculars later today. Please share.
Don't forget about Parent/Teacher Conferences!
This is a reminder to our families that we have parent/teacher conferences coming up over the next two days. Drummond Island Elementary will have parent teacher conferences tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb 28th from 3:30pm to 6:00pm.
On Thursday, Feb 29th, all students will be released at 12:30pm for a half day of school. All schools will then have parent/teacher conferences from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Thursday evening only DATA and DeTour High School will have parent/teacher conferences from 3:30pm to 6:00pm.

This is just a quick reminder to everyone that there will be no students in attendance at school tomorrow (Monday 19 February 2024)due to an EUP-wide staff Professional Development day. Enjoy the opportunity to sleep in and have a happy President's Day.
Because there is no school today, there will be NO Girls Elementary Basketball practice.
We had some community members come visit our school today to talk about their jobs. The kids were so great. Thank you to Drummond Island Fire and Rescue, Drummond Island Quarry/Carmuse, Drummond Island Ferry/EUPTA, Chippewa County Road Commission, Sune's Grocery and Northwood Bar and Restaurant.
There are still a few days left to send that special kiddo in your life a Valentine! Orders are due Friday so gifts can be assembled for delivery on Valentine's Day. Thank you!
Designs coming to life! Anne and Fred Guith asked Mrs. Moser and Mrs. Geyer's classes to design their own unique stocking hats. So they did! Each student made a colorful drawing of a personalized stocking hat. Anne and Fred took each drawing and knitted the exact designs for the students. What a cool idea. A very special thank you to Anne and Fred Guith for making this happen.

Island Raiders, in the event that you lose power on the Island, please know that you can take shelter at the Elementary School on the Island as our generator is up and running. IF you need shelter, please get ahold of Ms. Plowman: ellyf@eupschools.org or Mr. Vaught: rvaught@eupschools.org. We will both be checking our emails on our phones throughout the storm.
